Smoke Detectors

Install Detectors
• on every floor of your home
• in basements and workshops
• outside every bedroom
• 6 to 12 inches from the ceiling away from vents

Check Detectors
• once a month by pressing the test button until the detector beeps

Check the Batteries
• at every time change. This way, it's easy to remember

Fire Extinguisher Safety and Use

Be sure you know how to operate your fire extinguisher and the right way to fight a fire.

Keep your back to an exit and, depending on the size of your extinguisher, begin by standing 6 to 8 feet (180-240 centimeters) away from the fire. Follow the four-step PASS procedure. If the fire does not begin to go out immediately, leave the area at once.

Pass Procedure - Step 1: Pull the pin.

Pass Procedure - Step 2: Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire.

Pass Procedure - Step 3: Squeeze the trigger.

Pass Procedure - Step 4: Sweep the nozzle across the base of the fire.
